Gathering of the Bands
Everyone is a Scot for a day at the Gathering of the Bands! Held on the Saturday preceding the Labour Day Weekend at Victoria Park in Kincardine.
Pipers and drummers from Barrie, Goderich, Lucknow, Mount Forest, Newmarket, Georgetown, Clinton, Brussels, Windsor, Sarnia, Toronto, London, St.Thomas, and Hanover often participate as well as our guests from United States, England, Scotland, Ireland, and even Germany.
Bands not necessarily of the Celtic variety perform in the band shell in the afternoon - the Etobicoke Youth Orchestra, the Kincardine Community concert Band, Tony and the Islanders, and several Pipe Bands promise to keep the capacity crowd entertained.
Festivities at this licensed event begin at 12:00 noon. Hotdogs, corn-on-the-cob and drinks are available for a nominal fee - all you can eat for $5.00.
The excitement of the day leads up to a most breathtaking sight. Individual bands march on to the parade square on Durham Market North, form one massed band and march down Kincardine's main street followed by over 5000 enthusiastic fans.
After the parade the bands then play a concert at the park followed by lots of entertainment under the tent. Keep your eyes open there too, Kincardine has the distinction of having a few world champion pipers and drummers and you will likely catch them having some fun there also.
